Getting to New Haven

The nearest airport to New Haven is Tweed New Haven Airport (airport code: HVN), a few minutes drive from central New Haven. Tweed is a very small airport and the number of flights into and out of the airport each day is low, so if you plan to travel by air it may be worth considering flying into a different airport. Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, Connecticut is a larger airport approximately 50 miles north of New Haven. A bus service (the Bradley Flyer) connects Bradley Airport to downtown Hartford and from there it is possible to travel to New Haven by Amtrak or a variety of bus services. Alternatively, an Uber trip from Bradley airport to central New Haven typically costs between $60 and $85.

It may also be worth considering flying in to one of the three major airports in the New York area:

•    John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City
•    LaGuardia International Airport (LGA) in New York City
•    Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, New Jersey

Amtrak provides train services from Newark airport to New Haven’s Union Station. For all other airports, private shuttle services are available through Connecticut Limousine (800.472.5466) and GO Airport Shuttle (866.284.3247). Reservations for either of these shuttle services should be made well in advance of your date of travel.

Two train services serve New Haven Union Station, minutes from Yale’s campus.

•    Metro-North Railways offers frequent train service between New Haven and New York City.
•    Amtrak provides train service to New Haven from Vermont, Providence, Boston, and Washington DC.

Greyhound, Megabus, and Peter Pan bus companies all have services to New Haven Union Station. Traveling by bus is often the most economical way to get to New Haven from other cities in the northeast.
