Commerce and Character: Graduate Reading Group (Fifth Meeting)

  • Elm Institute Library (map)

This reading group explores the effects on human character of participation in commercial society. While it is commonly presumed today that economic activity is that value-free sphere of interest-maximization, that view was not shared by the thinkers we will consider in this group. Instead, for each of them, economic life falls within the sphere of practices and habits that, for good or for ill, form human character.

This reading group is open to graduate students in any discipline. For more information, including the full reading schedule click here.
