Robert Nisbet’s Quest for Community
Originally published in 1953, Robert Nisbet’s The Quest for Community is a classic of post-War American political thought. Drawing on Edmund Burke and Alexis de Tocqueville, Nisbet offers a diagnosis of the decline of the organizations and institutions that constitute civil society as they are threatened by radical individualism on the one hand and an increasingly powerful state on the other.
