A One-day Seminar on Medical Ethics with Farr Curlin and Christopher Tollefsen

A seminar intended to encourage medical trainees to think deeply and systematically about the central ethical issues that they will face in clinical practice. In particular, this seminar will explore a framework for bioethics based on contemporary philosophy derived from classical Greek thought, including that of Aristotle and Hippocrates.  Participants will be invited to consider what sort of practice medicine is, whether it has a rational end or goal and what difference that makes for the doctor-patient relationship, as well as a range of common issues in clinical ethics. The seminar will be led by Farr Curlin (Duke University) and Christopher Tollefsen (University of South Carolina).
