Work & Leisure: Shop Class as Soulcraft

In “Shop Class as Soulcraft” Matthew Crawford argues that contemporary thinking about work has been influenced by a series of misleading dichotomies between white collar and blue collar work and mental and manual labor. This has led to a severe underestimation of the economic opportunities and psychological satisfactions that can be found in trades like carpentry, plumbing, and automotive and electrical repair.

Open to current Yale students and alumni of the Elm Institute’s “Work, Leisure, and the Good Life” summer seminar. To sign-up for the discussion contact Peter Wicks.

Part of a series of discussions on the philosophy of work and leisure. For more information about the series click here.
