The Women Are Up to Something (Oxford University Press, 2021) tells the story of four remarkable female philosophers who met at Oxford at the cusp of the Second World War and who went on to transform the landscape of moral philosophy in the second half of the twentieth century. Benjamin Lipscomb will discuss stories his research for the book and consider how the careful study of the groundbreaking work and complex lives of Elizabeth Anscombe, Philippa Foot, Mary Midgley and Iris Murdoch provides not only insight into the state of modern moral philosophy but an antidote to contemporary tendencies towards political tribalism.
